Human and mink muscle structure and function have many anatomical similarities. But mink musculature differ in proportion. Minks, and members of the weasel family have long slender bodies, which is physical adaptation that enables them to crawl through tiny holes of their den or of the borrows of their prey. The muscles of them mink are longer and thinner than those of humans. The muscles of the mink's limbs are a lot shorter than those compared to ours, probably because we have to rely more on them. Their muscles are also a lot leaner.Wednesday, December 17, 2008
Mink Musculature

Recently, we have been learning about muscles. I guess it is pretty interesting because it can relate to our everyday uses, although everything we learn in physiology and anatomy relates to us. I am excited about the mink dissection, I have always liked mustelids (especially ferrets) and dissecting one would give me a better chance to learn more about them. I am also looking forward to the aquarium trip, I've been there once a few years back and it was a nice experience. I wanted to go again recently but I never got the chance.

Muscle Song
I don't I learned anything from having to sing the muscle song. I was pissed to have to sing and be graded for it since I'm not much of a singer. I guess if i paid more attention to the lyrics I would learn about specific muscles and their functions.
Bone Health
Bones are a vital part of our body, the need to retain strength and form to be healthy. To keep healthy bones, a person needs to provide it with adequate nutrition, such as calcium. Diseases like osteoporosis can severely weaken the bone, crippling the person afflicted.
Bone Function and Bone Structure
Bones are shaped in ways for them to be efficient for their purpose. Bones like the femur need to be strong to hold up the human body and to allow for movement. Each bone has a specific function and a specific structure to complement it.

Science and Math
The relationship between science and math is quite strong. Math used in many laws and theories in the form of formulas. It is essential for estimations, measuring, and calculating rates and percentages. In life science it can be used to measure things such as the rate of cell division, pressure, or to estimate probability of things like genetics.

"Some Bottled Water Not So Pure"
The recent quality test of bottled water has revealed that our reliable drinkable water source is not as clean as we believed it to be. The tests showed signs of many pollutants in commercialized water , these pollutants include bacteria, fertilizer (nitrates), industrial chemicals, and chemical byproducts. The bottled water industry needs to be more regulated and have regular quality checks. Tap water isn't that much dirtier after all.http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/news/20081014/report-some-bottled-water-not-so-pure

"Fearfully and Wonderfully Made"
The human body and the body of other organisms are composed of cells. The cell is the small unit of life. There are many types of cells, each with a specific function. A group of cells working together with the similar function form tissues. Many types of tissues with different functions join together to form organs, which perform one specific task.

"Cloned pit bull puppies revealed. All five of him"
Cloning has recently been a major issue and a scientific achievement. Bernann McKinney, having lost of her beloved pitbull terrier that she had rescued from a shelter 12 years ago, decided to clone it out of its skin cells. She had sent skin sells to a biotech lab called RNL Bio, so they could be inserted into embryos. The results were 5 of the same "Boogers" that she had lived so much. But her happiness came with a price, she had to sell her home to afford 50,000 for the cloning.

About Me
My name is Eric Ta. I have a strong interest in animals and I am hoping to study zoology when I get into college. I chose to take the anatomy and physiology only out of interest. I regret not taking this class last year when I had AP Biology since this is a recommended prerequisite for it. I hope to enjoy the course and all that it will teach me.
